Only this one species of pantry moth eats wool and hair. Moths are destructive no doubt but they don t actually eat your clothes their babies do. This moth is a weak flier and tends to run on surfaces instead.
The family has many species including the clothes moth. These are adult clothes moths. The family of pantry moths has characteristics such as the imago does not eat anything.
The adults do not eat fabric but their presence means that eggs will be laid that will produce fabric eating larvae. Do pantry moths eat clothes. Can clothing moths infest your kitche.
But do these moths travel to different areas of your home. Pantry moths on the other hand will burrow into and infest food goods you may have in storage like oatmeal cereal flour grain cornmeal rice and nuts but will also get into pet food birdseed dry pasta and dried fruits. The clothing moth otherwise called the wool worm is one species of pantry moth. And when you do you begin to worry about your precious items. This type of moth eats cotton wool silk and natural fibers found in clothing bedding drapes upholstery and carpet.

If they re indian meal moths you might be able to find infested foods on kitchen shelves or in the pantry. Clothes moths and pantry moths can be a real pest when they start eating your woollens and getting into your flour. Casemaking clothes moths are similar in appearance but have dark specks on the wings.
However the adults lay about 40 50 pinhead sized eggs on vulnerable substrates which in turn hatch into the fabric eating larvae. Look for 1 2 inch long buff coloured moths with narrow wings that have hairs along the edges. The imago is short lived.
